Meet the amazing meeple behind More Than Board Games Community Interest Company!

Matt (he/him)
"When i'm not playing board games, I'm thinking about playing board games. When I am playing a board game, I'm thinking about what game i'll play next."

Favourite Game: Power Grid
Gateway Game: Hive - A present from Kira!
If I was a board game component I would be... "The starting player token, to keep track of turn order."

Kira (she/her/they/them)

"Introducing people to tabletop gaming is my favourite hobby! There is a game out there for everyone."

Favourite Game: Castles of Burgandy
Gateway Game: Catan - I won the first time I played!
If I was a board game component I would be... "The box insert that keeps all the pieces neat and tidy."

“I started More Than Board Games to help others and highlight the benefits board games can bring to people. Whether that's to combat isolation, help build meaningful connections, learn new skills through gaming, or just to chat about our favorite games!
We are facing a devastating increase in adult isolation, and young people struggling to communicate away from smartphones and social media. Now more than ever we need to find ways to help people re-connect. I’ve found that even the quickest and simplest of games can break down barriers, encourage socialisation and support our mental wellbeing.

As someone who is neurodiverse and disabled, finding accessible spaces to play board games was a major issue, finding new people to play board games with was even harder, leaving me feeling incredibly excluded from my own hobby.
My determination to find new people led me to restarting and organizing meet-ups for my local board game group. After a year of many great games and building lifelong connections, my next goal was to start something far bigger and share the power of board games!”

Today is Giving Tuesday, a global day of giving!

Giving Tuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. Over the last decade, this idea has grown into a global movement that inspires millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.

As a -not-for-profit, we've been encouraged to create a donations page and ask our lovely supporter to send us money...
We didn't want to do that, so instead we made this list of ways people can 'give' without parting with any money.

  1.  Reach out to a loved one
Even for a quick catch-up, let someone know you are thinking of them. Isolation can affect anyone. a text, email or phone call can be the first move to a much needed
     conversation.

  2. Interect with small bussinesses or artist social media
Every Like, comment and share  helps small businesses and independant artist grow their following, and reach more people. This can take 5 minutes but make someones whole day!

  3. pick up rubbish in your local community
This doesnt have to be a full days work, or a whole team of people. Next time you see a piece of rubbish, pick it up and recyle it!

  4. Donate Clothes & Toys
Your un-needed clothes, toys and household items can be used by Food Banks, Local Organisations, Charity Shops and Appeal Centers.

  5. Give BLood... If you can
Your blood can help save a life. Find out more at NHS Blood Donation

  6. Advocate for a meaningful cause
Use your voice! In person, on social media or to your local councilor: Let important matters be heard.

  7. Volunteer your time knowledge or skills
Many organsisations need volunteers to help with their amazing work. If you have any skills, why not offer them up for free to those in need.

Thursday 20th of November 2025 is
World Social Enterprise Day

A global day created to raise the profile of the social enterprise movement and show the transformative impact businesses are creating across the world.
A chance to share stories, learn more about fellow social enterprises, and feel part of a global welcoming community, which is changing lives on pretty much every continent!
Including us; More Than Board Games Community Interest Company

So... What is a Social Enterpise?
Social enterprises are businesses. Like any other business, they seek to make a profit and succeed commercially. But how they operate, who they employ, how they use their profits and where they work is transforming lives and communities across the UK and around the world.
Social enterprises demonstrate a better way to do business, one that prioritises benefit to people and planet, and uses the majority of any profit to further their mission. Social enterprises contribute to reducing economic inequality, improving social justice and to environmental sustainability.

We’re a proud social enterprise: created with community in mind and the goal of providing an accessible gateway to tabletop gaming.
Our profits are used to provide games and gaming events to local communities.
These events help build relationships, teach new skills and combat isolation.
