Hello and welcome to the More Than Board Games blog.
We are a registered Community Interest Company (16586644), created to unite people through board games.
On a scale of Limited Businesses to Charities, Community Interest Companies are in the middle!
About Us
More Than Board Games is a new social enterprise established and run by self-confessed board game fanatics. We work with community groups, charities, schools, universities, businesses and individuals to provide welcoming, fun and inclusive spaces for people to socialise and play board games. Focusing on breaking down societal barriers, improving skills and supporting mental well-being.
Board games..? Yes, board games! Well, technically tabletop games.
Everything from quick card games and tactical tile placing games, to thought provoking roleplaying games and sneaky social deduction games.
We are carefully curating a board game library to be enjoyed by everyone, from children and families playing their first game to hardcore board gamers looking for something new, or even someone who has never picked up a meeple before.
Our carefully curated board game library is available for private and community hire, suitable for all ages and learning levels. Showcasing some of the best modern and vintage games out there; tried and tested to highlight the creative and social benefits board games can provide.
Check out our board game library on BoardGameGeek.
Now for the sciency bit - Psychologists from Edge Hill University have investigated the players behind the popularity of board games, providing data that could help support the use of games as a therapeutic tool.
More than 25% of gamers reported mental health or neurodevelopmental conditions, including anxiety at 12.2% and autism at 4.7%.
Dr Cross explained: “The revelation that many gamers have anxiety and autism shows that board games already serve a therapeutic purpose for many people…”
We at More Than Board Games recognise the mental benefit of board games, and notice a reduction in stress while playing. Board games are a perfect tool to help socialise, especially with those affected by anxiety and loneliness.
Sometimes a board game isn't just a game, it's sitting around a table with friends and checking-in with each other, meeting new people and making connections.
It can even be developing and learning new skills like teamwork and communication, or pattern recognition and strategic planning.
We really love board games, but we also love the benefits gaming provides!

GoFundMe
As we are still in our start up year, it is incredibly difficult to secure private funding or funding that won’t come back with a vengeance in the form of high interest.
Although we are working hard to grow More Than Board Games and support as many projects and people as possible, we have created a GoFundMe to ask for support.
Overall our GoFundMe goal is to reach £7000. We have outlined nine funding milestones, detailing how funding will be used and who we can support with each specific goal.
